What’s the cost of choosing the wrong degree?

REASONS vary:

• Institutional, such as the level of study – too high or too low, lecturers’ expertise, tuition fees, the ratio of theory to practice, communication within the university, infrastructure.

• Individual, such as lack of interest in the field of study, limited knowledge about the program when making the decision, the need to move out of the family home, other responsibilities (e.g. work), health issues (including mental health), etc.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST US?

A year of study costs from several to several dozen thousand zlotys, depending on the chosen field, type of university, and its location.

HOW WAS IT FOR ME?

I was one of those lucky cases and completed my first degree as planned, even though my parents chose it for me, fulfilling their dream that their children would graduate from the best universities. I am grateful to them for guiding my life and for their hard work, thanks to which I could even afford such studies.

Only a random choice of my first job made me work in the same industry for nearly 20 years, which still gives me a lot of satisfaction and fulfillment.

HOW IS IT FOR YOU?

Times have changed, and opportunities are unlimited. Does that make it easier? Not always. Are you counting on a lucky coincidence, or do you want to make a conscious decision as a future STUDENT or provide support as a PARENT?

It’s worth calmly considering:

• what the alternatives to studying are (own business, first job, going abroad, etc.),

• which competencies and skills really matter to you,

• what your strengths and natural talents are,

• what you want and what your environment expects from you,

• how you can accelerate your educational success,

• what kind of help you can use before choosing a specific field of study or before starting your studies.
